The Real ROI of Community Events (It’s Bigger Than You Think)
This week, I was reminded of something powerful.
Community isn’t built in boardrooms. It’s built in rooms filled with purpose.
I attended the annual fundraiser fashion show that has now sold out four years in a row, bringing together approximately 250 women in business, leadership, and community organizations, to support Dress for Success Saskatoon invited by my lovely friend and adventure partner Tracey Fesiuk
That kind of traction doesn’t happen by accident.
It happens because the mission matters.
The Power Behind the Mission
Organizations like:
…came together to create more than a fashion show.
They created visibility. They created opportunity. They created dignity.
Dress for Success isn’t just about clothing. It’s about confidence. It’s about economic independence. It’s about equipping women to re-enter or advance in the workforce with strength.
And the room reflected that mission.
What Fundraisers Really Do (Beyond the Obvious)
We often think of fundraisers as “charity events.”
But they are so much more:
✔ They build community capital
✔ They create cross-industry partnerships
✔ They increase brand visibility organically
✔ They foster long-term relationships
✔ They give small businesses a bigger stage
✔ They align companies with meaningful causes
When businesses collaborate around a shared mission, something shifts.
It’s no longer about transactions.
It becomes about contribution.
And contribution builds trust faster than any marketing campaign ever could.
Why This Matters for Business Owners
If you’re a small business owner in Saskatoon (or anywhere), here’s the real takeaway:
Community involvement isn’t a side activity. It’s a growth strategy.
Supporting events like this:
Expands your network in a natural way
Introduces you to aligned partners
Builds goodwill that money can’t buy
Positions your brand as purpose-driven
And in today’s market?
People don’t just buy services. They buy from businesses that care.
Bigger Than Business
The room wasn’t just full of well-dressed women.
It was full of leaders.
Collaborators.
Sponsors.
Volunteers.
Mentors.
Women lifting other women.
And that energy? It compounds.
When organizations collaborate for a larger cause, the ripple effect spreads far beyond the event itself.
More visibility. More opportunity. More impact.
That’s the real ROI.
A Question for You
What cause aligns with your brand?
And how are you showing up in your community beyond selling your service?
Because sometimes the most powerful marketing move you can make…
Is standing beside something bigger than yourself.
